Born about 1742, Elinipsico Cornstalk was murdered along with his father, Chief Cornstalk at Fort Randolph in Point Pleasant, VA (west virginia).
Elinipsicos children with Standing Deer Bailey, who died in 1775, were orphaned after their fathers murder.
These children were:
1) Hezekiah N. "Low Hawk" Whitt
2)Thomas Bailey "Kumskaka" Christian
3) Outhowwa Shokka Cornstalk
4) Sarah "Mountain Raven" Mastin
Thomas Bailey Christian and the others were adopted by Captain Thomas Mastin and his wife Agnes.
Thomas Mastin gave three of the orphans alternate names. Probably as one criteria for owning land. It was not possible to own land with an Indian name at that time. Thomas Mastin gave land parcels to two of the orphans.
Mastin gave "Low Hawk" the new name Hezekian N. Whitt in honor of his friend and neighbor.
Mastin, it is believed, named "Kumskaka" Thomas Bailey Christian for Colonel William Christian, another admired military figure on the frontier.
If you notice, Thomas Bailey Christian has the middle name Bailey. This name matches his dead mothers maiden name. His first name Thomas is after Thomas Mastin, the man who adopted him.
Thomas Bailey Christian also named his eldest son, Mastin Harman Christian, Sr. after the surname of the man who adopted him, surely out of respect.
Thomas Bailey Christian who was born in 1770 and died in 1854 and Mary Altizer who was born in 1810 and died in 1894 had a son which they named Moses Christian. Moses Christian was born in 1795 and died in 1855.
Moses Christian and Mary "Polly" Beavers had a son which they named Thomas Beavers Christian who was born in 1821 and died in 1874.
Thomas Beavers Christian and Mary Barnett had a son which they named Luther Christian who was born in 1857 and died in ____. Luther Christian married Mary Milly blankenship in Allegheny, VA in 1878. Luther and Mary are buried at the Neal Chapel cemetery in Vago, WV.
Luther Christian and Mary Milly Blankenship had a son which they named Thomas Henry Christian who was born in 1881 and died in 1962.
Thomas Henry Christian and Hattie Green Clemons were married and had a son named Roy Lee Christian, Sr. in 1909.
